My Father’ List

Endlessly early days of peace after WW2 , the days, days of sunshine with exorcism. Six years of fear, repression and darkness. All the happiness surrounds us, now we have light. Mother's painstakingly stitched wavy borders on the heavy blanket blackout curtains, destined for the newly lit bonfire. Young never seen a garden fire before. Never known the beauty of flames in the dusk, never seen no longer needed household objects thrown in celebration to be consumed by flames; see the visually contagious happiness spilling from our garden to houses next door and further afield. Never known a party where people hadn't sat in parlours filled with cigarette smoke and beer fumes and sad sad faces; Faces that had just remembered how to smile beaming everywhere; arms were for hugging; feet were for dancing in mad hopping sequences; voices that yippeed and yelped and sang ; such gusto; everything was gusto .......................... ...

Observations and writing

Observations recorded in Virginia Woolf's diary.... A violent rainstorm on the pond. The pond is covered with little white thorns: springing up and down: the pond is bristling with leaping white thorns, like the thorns on a small porcupine; bristles; then black waves cross it; and the little water thorns are white; a helter-skelter rain and the elms tossing it up and down; lily leaves tugging; the red flower swimming about; one leaf flapping; then completely smooth for a moment; then prickled; thorns like glass; leaping up and down incessantly; a rapid smirch of shadow. Now light from the sun; green and red; shiny; the pond a sage green; the grass brilliant red; red berries on the hedges; the cows very white; the purple over Asheham................... ...

The Shoplifter

I'd never been to court before, Never seen the majesty of law, Now here I sit to see the wife, who ruled full forty years of my life, Arrested, standing head bowed in dock Guilty of stealing food from stock A woman of good character says the Judge,' I know better, she's made my life a drudge. 'Whatever possessed her to steal,' says his Honour, 'Moments of madness must have come upon her, 'Seven cans of peaches had been her main haul, Plus a few extra bits, that was all.' The Judge in his wisdom gave forth his decree, 'I must make an example of you don't you see? Seven Cans of peaches you'll serve seven days inside One pint of milk - one other day beside. Two days for two loaves - let this be a lesson, Ten days it will be , before you leave prison.' I couldn't bear to see her sentenced ten days out of hand, I jumped to my feet I had to yell and stand, 'Your honour, ten items for...

A Bit of Whimsy and Nonsense

This came out of nowhere and I don't know where it is bound. There can be no article unless it makes sense, There can be no article unless it makes sense; So we are told, and in my defense, I offer this Writing, a piece of nonsense That no-one understands unless it makes sense. COVID 19 lockdown, while some sit on their fence, Is Government spending pounds whilst saving pence? The present need for financial stability is intense, Time now to keep records with due deference, To each tortuous, political twist, and its reference. Rightist and leftist, centrist et all Are joining this quick step, posturing , prancing ball. Then look askance, think of types of chance, Leaders’ daily reading statistics in this sad dance, Shall we credit them with saving us? if save us they do? Or shall we forget them and say Testing kits were too few? The antonym of slim-chance is surely not fat-chance. Stay Home-Protect NHS – Save Lives Remember, reference, to memories, and financial  necessities Are all in this piece to help it make sense If...

Seems a shame if we lose what we started.

Wenhaston writers blasted through February and then was hit by hall closures and lack of contact. With the help of my daughter, I have set up a private website from which we can 'virtually' continue the work towards producing The Wenhaston Writers 2020 book of creativity. It works like this. You register on this site pick your own personal password and post the work that you have produced within the week. I will submit the topic style and proposed genre, then ask for your support by you submitting your work to your personal page placings on this site. I hope that this will work and would ask you to register, tell me how you are healthwise and let me know if you have any ideas on the way forward for this innovation. We were collecting monies on a weekly basis towards the eventual costs of publishing the result of our year's work. Whilst I don't want to create a pay to learn system if...
