As soon as Jeremy saw the ‘Lady in Pink’ waiting in the bar, he knew she was waiting for him.
Nervously he approached her and coughed “Hello, you’re looking lovely. Oh, I’m Jeremy, by the way.”
The Pink Lady looked up slowly, peering over the top of her reading glasses, “Jeremy, do I know you? ” She looked back at her menu.
“Can I get you another drink?” asked Jeremy, hoping that she would refuse as he didn’t have a lot of cash on him.
“No, I’m fine, thank you”, the Pink Lady drawled
When Jeremy returned from the bar, he had been rehearsing his next conversation and had settled on the subject of hobbies. “Do you have any hobbies?” he asked hoping it would open up the dialogue between them.
“No, not really.” She to meet you, Jeremy replied, sounding bored. Not the answer he was hoping for.
Jeremy thought that he would take the opportunity to talk about himself for a while “Well, I love gardening, although I’m not terribly good at it. I probably kill more green things than I grow.” He struggled to think of anything interesting to add, so instead he asked another question, hoping for a positive response this time “Do you have any pets?”
The lady in pink seemed irritated and almost barked her response “No, I don’t have time for such trivialities.”
Again, Jeremy took the opportunity of filling the endless silence, this time with a recount of his beloved cat. “Well, I’m not sure that I could survive without my Miffy. She’s a wonderful cat, so affectionate and playful”.
Noticing that the Lady was gazing out of the window, not paying any attention to him, at all, his recollections faded. Sitting silently for a while, Jeremy finally plucked up the courage to pose another question, “So” he said hesitantly, “How many times have you used Tinder.”
At last, he thought, something they had in common, which would undoubtably begin a long exchange on their successes and failures in the dating game.
The Lady stood up and peering down at him, she replied, “I’ve no idea what you are talking about, or what Tinder is. I am going to sit over there and wait for my sister to arrive.”
